Whalen honored as SCIAC Hitter of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Samantha Whalen was selected as the SCIAC softball Hitter of the Week after helping Chapman to their first two wins on Friday.

Whalen hit .500 in a doubleheader sweep at Redlands with four RBIs on a pair of clutch singles. Her two-RBI single capped a four-run second inning that tied the game at 4-4. The Panthers eventually scored again in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead, which it kept to sweep the doubleheader.

She also smacked a clutch single in the first game to put Chapman up 4-1 early. After an error extended the inning and allowed a couple of Panther runs, Whalen delivered a blow with a two-out single to bring in two more for the early 4-1 lead.

The senior from Livermore, Calif., leads the squad with six RBIs this season and is hitting .364 this year. The Panthers will finally play at home on Saturday at noon against Occidental.
