Fourteen Chapman University winter sports student-athletes have been recognized for their achievement in the classroom by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference which named its All-Academic teams by sport on Wednesday. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s swimming and diving with six athletes honored.

Freshman diver Kayla Dimicco earned the All-SCIAC honors with her second-place finish in the 3-meter dive at the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Whittier College in February.

CSCAA recognizes Chapman men, women for their classroom work

Coming off the end of the 2014-15 season and a strong showing at the SCIAC Championships last weekend, the Chapman University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams received some great news in the classroom. Both Panther teams earned Scholar All-America team recognition from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the Fall 2014 semester.

Freshman divers Kayla Dimicco (12th place in women's 1-meter) and Joey Luba (5th place in men's 3-meter) wrapped Chapman's first-ever appearance at the NCAA Diving Regionals with solid performances on Saturday.

Divers break new ground with Regionals performances

For the first time in school history, Chapman University divers competed at the NCAA Regional Championships, which were held Feb. 27-28 at the Josh Davis Natatorium, hosted by Trinity University (Texas). Freshman Joey Luba placed fifth in both the men’s 1-meter and 3-meter events while freshman Kayla Dimicco earned as high as an eighth-place finish in the women’s 3-meter dive.

Chapman University freshman Joey Luba placed fifth overall (out of nine) in the NCAA West Regional men's 1-meter diving on Friday, while fellow freshman Kayla Dimicco finished eighth (out of 15) in the women's 3-meter diving in San Antonio, Texas.

After a successful performance at the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Chapman University freshmen Joey Luba and Kayla Dimicco will travel to San Antonio, Texas on Feb. 27-28 for the NCAA Diving Regional Championships, hosted by Trinity University.

Swim breaks six school records on final day of Championships

The Chapman University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams set six school records on Sunday as the 2015 SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships concluded at Lillian Slade Aquatics Center. The Panther women finished in seventh place overall with a total of 315 points, while the men placed eighth in the conference with 238 points.

Men and women rank seventh after Day 2 at SCIAC Championships

Day 2 of the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships brought more diving highlights for Chapman University as freshman men’s diver Joey Luba placed fifth overall in the 3-meter springboard finals with an NCAA Regionals-qualifying score of 458.70 overall.

Chapman University women's diver Kayla Dimico earned sixth place at the SCIAC Championships at the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center on Thursday in the 1-meter springboard event, qualifying for the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in the process.

Blend of rookies, experience has Chapman hopeful entering SCIAC Championships

It will be a contrast of youth and experience as the Chapman University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams compete at the 2015 SCIAC Championships at Whittier College all weekend, beginning on Thursday. Medal-hopefuls for the Panthers include freshmen divers Joey Luba (men’s) and Kayla Dimicco (women’s), as well as rookie swimmers Jonathan Lee (men’s) and Mary Welton (women’s). Meanwhile, senior sprinters Kirsten Spicer and Emily Holmquist are also hoping to wrap up their careers with big finishes.

Freshmen tout big swim/dive performances on 'Senior Day'

It was ‘Senior Day’ for the Chapman University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams on Saturday, but it was the freshmen who stole the show as the Panther women split dual-meet scoring, defeating visiting University of La Verne (148-142) and falling to University of Redlands (197-100) at the Allred Pool. The men fell to both schools, narrowly losing to La Verne (138-117) and Redlands (205-72).

Swim and Dive earns big win over Caltech

The Chapman University swimming and diving team earned a big win over visiting Caltech on Saturday 362-199. The Panthers defeated Caltech 246-30, while the men fell to the Beavers 169-116 at the Allred Pool

Women defeat Cal Lu, Lee sets men's record in medley

January 24, 2015

Freshman swimmer Jonathan Lee broke a four-year old school record in the 400-yard individual medley, but the Chapman University men’s swimming and diving team lost to Cal Lutheran University on the road on Saturday. The women fared much better, however, defeating the host Regals 162-62 in their third-to-last SCIAC meet before the conference championships.

The Chapman University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost in a dual SCIAC meet at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, but the Panther diving team continues to be the story of the season. Freshman divers Joey Luba and Kayla Dimicco qualified outright for the NCAA Division III Regionals with brilliant performances on the 1-meter springboard.
