Men and women rank seventh after Day 2 at SCIAC Championships

WHITTIER, Calif. – Day 2 of the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships brought more diving highlights for Chapman University as freshman men's diver Joey Luba placed fifth overall in the 3-meter springboard finals with an NCAA Regionals-qualifying score of 458.70 overall.

Freshman women's diver Kayla Dimicco also finished in second place in the women's 3-meter springboard preliminaries with a total 11-dive score of 411.80, which also qualifies for NCAA Regionals. Dimicco will compete in the 3-meter finals on Saturday.

Senior sprinter Kirsten Spicer had an exciting day on Friday, as well. First she qualified for the finals in the 50-yard freestyle by winning a "swim off" in the preliminaries after she and another swimmer tied for the last berth in the finals. It was a season-best time of 24.95 in the event, besting her previous season-low of 25.03. She then finished ninth overall in the 50 Free finals.

Chapman's men's 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of freshmen Jonathan Lee and Tylor Sarrafzadeh and sophomores Taylor Ford and Sam Baker, set a school record and placed seventh overall with a time of 1:26.65 in the event.

After two days of competition, Chapman ranks seventh in the championships points standings in both men's and women's scoring.
