Swimming and diving takes on Claremont and Cal Lu in double dual
CLAREMONT, Calif.– The Chapman University men's and women's swim teams joined Cal Lutheran and Claremont Mudd-Scripps at Claremont Saturday morning, with the men's team finishing 0-2 and the women's team finishing 1-1.
The meet was a double dual between the three teams. All three teams competed in every event but the events were scored as a dual meet between two of the three teams.
Chapman women's dive was led by freshman Kellyn Toole with a 223.95 score on the 1-meter to earn first-place. Toole also placed second in the 3-meter dive with a 195.25, behind Lessard's 218.30.
Freshman Kristina Fong swam a season best to earn first-place in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 55.97.
Once again, pacing the sprinters was junior Martina Exlerova who earned first-place in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 24:78. Fong fell just 0.66 seconds behind Exlerova to win second place.
Freshman Katie Blasing and junior Claire Fieweger swam well for the Panthers in the 200-yard backstroke, while teammate's sophomore Emily Taifer and freshman Sadie Wiens paced Chapman in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Leading the Panthers in the 500-yard freestyle was sophomore Mary Welton with a season-best time of 5:36.69.
The men's team was led by sophomore AJ Silva who finished the 200-yard butterfly in third-place with a time of 2:03.51 for the Panthers highest finish of the day.
Freshman Connor Broughton also finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best mark of 2:04.84.
Chapman has almost a month of preparation before hosting Biola University on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m.
