Broughton breaks 400 IM record again

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Connor Broughton broke his own school record in the 400 IM to highlight both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams double dual meet with La Verne and Caltech.  

The Chapman women defeated Caltech 161 to 43, but fell to La Verne 125 to 105. Broughton was the bright spot for the men's team on Saturday, with the Panthers falling to La Verne 251-184 and Caltech 135 to 86.

Broughton's time of 4:15.94 in the 400 IM not only allowed him to break his existing record by three seconds, but also the winning time by almost seven seconds. The freshman also paced the Panthers in the 1650 free with a final mark of 16:44.30 making him the only swimmer to finish under the 17 minute mark.

On the women's side, freshman Kristina Fong continued to perform well for the Panthers earning first place in the 50 free with a final time of 25.15 and in the 100 free with a mark of 54.19.

Junior Lauren Alvarado paced the Panthers in the 500 free with a first place time of 5:31.84 shaving nearly eight seconds off her season-best.

The diving events finished up the meet with freshman Kellyn Toole earning first place on the 3 meter with a score of 231.90 and on the 1-meter earning a 210.00 to sweep both events.

The Panthers will take their next two meets to the road, with the next competition marked for next Saturday, Jan. 30 at Whittier College.
