Women’s relay teams highlighted in loss to Whittier

The Chapman University swim and dive teams traveled to Whittier for the Panthers first road match in two months with the women's relay teams pacing Chapman in the pool.

Chapman ultimately came up short with the women falling 128-54 to the Poets and the men's team dropping the match 121-90 at the Whittier Aquatic Center on Saturday.

The Chapman women relay teams defeated Whittier in both the 200 free and the 400 medley. Freshman Kristina Fong led off the 200 free with an impressive sprint of 25.21 to lead the Panthers to a first place time of 1:44.20. Fong also swam lead in the 400 medley relay for the team's final mark of 4:13.86.

Sophomore Emily Taifer paced the Panthers in the 200 breast with career-best time of 2:36.57. While junior Claire Fieweger earned first place in the 200 back with a final time of 2:14.84 shaving four seconds off of her season best.

Freshman Kellyn Toole continued to dominate on the boards scoring a 252.27 on the 1-meter.

On the men's side, freshman Connor Broughton continues to be the bright spot for the men's team with a pair of wins. The freshman paced the Panthers in the 200 fly with a final time of 2:00.39, shaving a full second of off his season best. Broughton also raced in the 200 breast for the first time this season and won with a mark of 2:18.56.

Chapman will swim its last meet before SCIAC Championships on Saturday, Feb 6 in a double-dual meet with Redlands and Occidental. The SCIAC Championships will begin on Thursday, Feb. 18 in La Mirada.
