Reeves sets school record, three Panthers swim in championship finals

COMMERCE, Calif. – Sophomore Jailey Reeves narrowly beat her own school record and the Chapman University swim teams saw three Panthers swim in the championship finals on day three of the SCIAC Championships. The women's team heads into the final day in fifth place with 297 points while the men are in seventh place with 210.5 points.

Reeves school record came in her finals swim of the 100 breast. She won the consolation final with a time of 1:06.37 to take 10th overall and beat her own school record, which she set last year, by .02 seconds. Freshman Avery Tamusaitis took 14th in the 100 breast.

The men's team had its best showing of the meet with two swimmers in the championship final of the 100 back. Sophomore William Crewe just missed the podium by less than a quarter of a second with a 51.12 to take fourth place. Sophomore Josh Modglin wasn't far behind in seventh place with a 51.72.

Junior Molly Davis swam in the championship final of the 200 free to lead the women's team. She took seventh with a 1:54.82. Junior Teresa Gerhold swam in another consolation final and took 11th in the 200 free with a 1:58.44.

The Panthers also placed three swimmers in the consolation finals of the women's 400 IM with sophomore Carina Laukaitis coming in 11th at 4:46.67. Junior Katherine Buliga took 15th with a 4:50.88 and junior Ally Haase came in 17th.

Senior Kristina Fong also swam in her second consolation final and took 14th with a 1:00.28 in the 100 back. Sophomore Hanna Heiss joined her in the 100 back final and finished 17th with a 1:00.77.

The men's team had four more swimmers land spots in the consolation finals, led by junior Connor Broughton in the 400 IM. Broughton took 13th with a 4:13.19. In the 100 fly, freshmen Darren Wong and Brandon Leu took 17th and 18th, respectively. Freshman William Cho tied for 14th in the 100 breast with a 59.89.

The day ended with the 400 medley relay as both the men's and women's teams took seventh place.

The SCIAC Championships end tomorrow with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay.
