Guarino shines on the boards at SCIAC tri-meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Chapman University men's and women's swim and dive teams competed against Cal Lutheran and Claremont-Mudd Scripps at the second SCIAC meet of the year this past Saturday. Freshman Riley Brownfield and Junior Olivia Guarino helped lead the women to a second place finish with a team score of 62.

Rookie Brownfield finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:08.09 while Guarino took first place in the women's 3-meter dive with a score of 231.60 and third place in the 1-meter dive with 226.14 points. Freshman Mina Cannon also had a top-5 finish on the 3-meter board, earning fourth place with 197.70 points. 

Senior Molly Davis and the rest of her four-man squad which consisted of Brownfield, sophomore Avery Tamusaitis and fellow senior Natalie Neffner, took home third in the 400 free relay later that afternoon, finishing with a time of 3:48.93. Chapman also took fourth in that same event with a 3:52.86 finish by sophomore Nancy Zhu, juniors Gillian Logan and Carina Laukitias and senior Ally Haase. Logan also placed third in the 500 free, finishing in 5:26.20. 

Rookies Hannah Parulan and Ella McShane both had top-5 finishes in the 100 back, finishing third and fifth respectively. 

On the men's side, sophomore Brandon Leu took first place in the 50 free with a time of 21:95. Fellow second-year William Cho finished fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.55.

Leu, alongside sophomore Omar Insignares, senior Nick O'Neill and freshman Michael Garza took third place in the 400 free relay, finishing in 3:18.63. The men tied with Cal Lutheran with 58 team points.

The Panthers take the next couple of weeks off for the Thanksgiving break before traveling to East Los Angeles College for the Winter Invitational from Friday, Dec. 6 to Sunday, Dec. 8.
