Swim & dive falls in dual with Pomona-Pitzer

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University swimming & diving teams fell in dual meets to the defending SCIAC champions – Pomona-Pitzer – on Saturday. The Panthers still took first in three events and had some season-best swims.

The men's team fell 204-42 while the women's team fell 225-62 in penultimate dual meet of the season. Freshman Charlene Chai was near the front of the pack for the Panthers, taking second in two races and third in another. Senior Ally Haase and junior Gillian Logan both won a race to lead Chapman.

Haase took first in the 200 fly with a 2:15.76, just ahead of Chai. Chai came in at 2:16.35. Chai also took second in the 200 back and third in the 100 fly.

Logan gave the Panthers a strong finish to the meet with a win in the final individual event of the day. She just beat Pomona-Pitzer's Anna Newman to the wall with a time of 4:47.83. Senior Teresa Gerhold also took a second-place finish in the longest event of the day with a 19:15.98 in the 1650 free.

Sophomore Brandon Leu led the men's team with their only first-place finish of the day. He sprinted to a season-best 22.16 in the 50 free to take first in the event.

Sophomore Will Cho just missed a first-place finish of his own in the 200 breast. He clocked in at 2:13.90 and was less than two-tenths of a second behind the event winner from Pomona-Pitzer.

The Panthers will celebrate their senior next Saturday during their final dual meet of the season. Chapman takes on Whittier at 11 a.m. with the first diving event preceding the swimming at 10:30 a.m.
