Chapman looks to make some noise at SCIAC Championships

ORANGE, Calif. - After two successful finishes at the 2018 and 2019 SCIAC Championships, the Chapman University men's and women's swim teams enter the 2020 championships with hopes to finish even higher than the past two seasons.

Underclassmen have been leading the way for the men's squad this season. Sophomore William Cho holds the sixth-best time in the SCIAC in the 400 IM, 18th-best time in the 200 fly and the 19th-best time in the 200 breast.

Junior Will Crewe holds top-20 times in the SCIAC in the 100 back, 200 fly and 200 IM. The veteran holds the 11th-best time in the SCIAC in the 100 backstroke and the 20th-best time in the 200 fly and will look to earn a spot in the finals in both events.

Sophomore Omar Insignares also looks to land a spot in the 100 fly with the 20th-best time in the SCIAC.

Freshman Gillian Logan comes into the championship meet with the highest individual event ranking of any Panther. She ranks sixth in the 400 IM with a 4:40.81 and will look to make the championship final on Saturday. She also ranks 19th in the 1650 free.

Freshman Hannah Purulan has been a driving factor in the squad's success during her breakout season. Her highest ranking comes in the 200 IM where she ranks 10th in the SCIAC. She'll also swim the 100 and 200 back where she ranks 17th and 22nd, respectively, as well as joining all four relay teams.

Fellow freshman Charlene Chai is right on the edge of scoring in three events as she ranks 17th in the 100 and 200 fly as well as the 400 IM. Another freshman Riley Brownfield will look to earn some Chapman points as she heads into the meet ranked 12th in the 1650 free and 17th in the 200 free.

Sophomore Kealani Tanizaki-Hudson has her eyes on the finals for the 100 fly. Her time of 59.90 ranks 15th in the SCIAC heading into the championship meet. Senior Ally Haase goes into the meet also eyeing a spot in finals in the 200 fly. Her 2:15.76 ranks 15th in the SCIAC.

The SCIAC Championship meet gets underway today with the 200 medley and 800 free relays.
