Chu sets CU record at Oxy Distance Carnival
Occidental, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's track and field team displayed a handful of standout performances on Friday afternoon at the Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic hosted by Occidental College.
Junior sprinter Fiona Chu set a new Chapman mark, finishing third place in the women's 400 meters and setting a new CU record with a mark of 59.68 to break the one-minute mark. The junior broke and set the nearly three-year old record by .68 seconds earlier this season at La Verne with a time of 1:00.09.
On the men's side, freshman Griffin Saunders took sixth place in the 110 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.84 seconds just .33 seconds behind the top-3 competitors. Sophomore sprinter Johnny Michalik placed eighth in in the 100-meter dash setting a season-low with a mark of 11.28 seconds.
Senior sprinter Rhett Ramirez placed first in his heat, Top-20 overall, with a mark of 52.55 in the 400-meter dash.
The Panther men and women will travel to Occidental on Saturday, March 28 to host SCIAC Multi Dual #2 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Chapman will then travel to Claremont for the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday, April 4 beginning at 10 a.m.
