Track & field heads to SCIAC Championships this weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University's men's and women's track and field teams have their sights set on their best performances of the season as they travel to Eagle Rock for the 2015 SCIAC Track and Field Championships which begin on Friday and finish on Saturday, hosted by Occidental College.

Junior sprinter Fiona Chu may be the Panthers' best hopes for a medal, leading the charge for the women's team after a record-breaking season. She broke her own personal school record in the 400-meter dash with a career best time of 58.68. Chu is ranked fourth overall in the SCIAC in the 400 meters and could also earn a berth in the NCAA Division III Championships with another school record this weekend.

Other runners to watch are sophomore sprinters Alex Bliss and Alyssa Bliss, and freshman sprinter Nicole Greenberg, Each of them has displayed explosiveness throughout the season and the ability to rank among the fastest in the conference.

The Chapman men's team is looking to have success in its first-ever appearances at the SCIAC Championships.  Sophomore sprinter Johnny Michalik is hoping to continue his strong performance in the 100- and 200-meter events. He is ranked 15th and 25th in the events in SCIAC, respectively. He set a season-low time of 11.21 in the 100-meter dash at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #3 in Claremont.

Freshman Griffin Saunders is currently ranked third in the SCIAC for his performance in the 110 hurdles. He recorded a season-high time of 15.55 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #1 at La Verne in March.
