Chapman breaks two school records in Rossi Relays

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University track and field team had another record-breaking meet this Saturday at the Rossi Relays, held at Claremont Mudd Scripps.

The women's DMR "A" team, consisting of sophomore Emma Eglinton and freshmen Angelica Kolar, Carly Trent and Arabella Reece ran a time of 12:58.10 to break the school record by 22 seconds. Eglinton, who ran the 1200m leg to help her team achieve the record, spoke enthusiastically about the race, "It was my first time running the 1200m so I was very happy with how it went. I'm super proud of everyone on my team."

In the 4x800 relay, the women's "A" team, made up of Trent, Reece, and sophomores Gabi Siguenza and Tish Tajii, finished with a time of 10:15.96, breaking the previous school record of 10:22.15, and placing sixth out of 14 teams.

In addition to breaking school records, several panthers were able to break their own personal records at the meet. Junior Drake Butler ran a time of 9:12.92 in the 3000m race, surpassing his personal best by nearly five seconds. Freshman Promise Johnson competed in the long jump and earned a personal best with a jump of 4.57m.

Throwers Cedric Cole and Lauren Miller both had strong showings at the meet. Senior Cole threw 39.65m in discus, to place 15th out of 38 throwers. Junior Miller threw 10.28m in shot put, earning 11th place out of 28 throwers.

Next week the team will gear up to compete in their first SCIAC meet of the season, held at Pomona Pitzer on Saturday, March 2.
