Records rewritten, 11 personal-bests highlight Irwin Scoring Meet
ORANGE, Calif. – Eleven personal-bests and three rebroken school records made for a very successful day for the Chapman University track & field teams at the Irwin Scoring Meet. Sophomore Emma Eglinton and Gabi Siguenza along with freshman Arabella Reece bettered their own school records.
Eglinton ran the 3000m steeplechase for the first time this year and shattered her previous record by nearly 14 seconds with a 12:06.66 on Saturday, taking sixth place. Just a week after breaking the 400m hurdles school record, Siguenza dropped another second and a half off her time with a 1:06.40.Reece demolished the 1500m record she set two weeks ago with a 4:44.28 – 12.34 seconds faster than her previous best.
Sophomore Derek Ohara set two personal-bests with an 11.07 in the 100m dash and 22.73 in the 200m dash. He now ranks fifth in the SCIAC in both events. Sophomore Aki Shigeyama and freshman Scott Fitzpatrick were just behind Ohara in the 200m with times of 22.77 and 22.78, respectively, to take spots in the top-10 in the SCIAC. Shigeyama also had a personal-best in the 400m with a 50.59. Fitzpatrick's season-best time of 49.98 in the 400m ranks third in the SCIAC.
Senior Cedric Cole had a personal-best in the shot put with a toss of 12.94m (42-feet, 5.5-inches). The throwers saw another personal-best from sophomore Camryn Hamaguchi with a mark of 10.06m (33-feet, 0.25-inches) in the shot put. Junior Josanni Martinez had personal-best marks in the shot put and javelin. Sophomore Tish Tajii joined the list of personal-bests with a best 400m hurdles run of her career at 1:09.10.
The men's 4x100m relay team had a season-best time of 43.72 to take third at the meet.
The Panthers are off next weekend before heading to the SCIAC Multi-Duals #2 at La Verne on Mar. 30.
