Panthers hand Connecticut first loss of season

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Katelyn Serizawa led the Chapman University women's basketball team to a double-digit victory against previously undefeated Connecticut College on Tuesday night. The Panthers led by as many as 22 point in the fourth quarter and secured the 82-65 win, handing the Camels their first loss of the season.  

Serizawa was an impressive 4-for-5 from the floor, scoring 11 points. To go along with nine assists and seven rebounds. The freshman was one of five Panthers to score in double-digits.

Senior Lauren Sato drained a three at the 6:33 mark to spark an early 10-3 run. Chapman built a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Connecticut climbed back with a 23 point effort in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough for Chapman's high energy. 

Leading 39-30 in the third period, junior Megan Charles got the hot hand, scoring eight points including back-to-back jump shots in the first five minutes. The Panthers led 63-46 at the end of the third and matched Connecticut College with 19 points in the fourth to pull away with the win. 

Chapman collected nine steals and scored 22 points off of turnovers. Sophomore Jaime Hum-Nishikado led the Panther offense with 14 points, sinking four triples.

The Panthers (4-5 overall) will host Albion College (3-7) on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m.
