Criswell, Fajardo sweep SCIAC weekly awards

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's basketball team swept through the competition on opening weekend and then swept the first SCIAC weekly awards. Junior Lucy Criswell was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week and senior Jaryn Fajardo was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week.

The reigning SCIAC Athlete of the Year showed no signs of slowing with a career-best 32-point game to open the season. She knocked down seven three pointers in the outburst while grabbing 11 boards and blocking eight shots. Her eight blocks tied a 34-year old school record. She scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Linfield on Saturday to lead Chapman to a 2-0 record.

Fajardo was two rebounds shy of a triple-double in the opener against Illinois College with 15 points, 13 assists and eight boards. Six of her eight rebounds came on the defensive end to go along with a pair of steals. She continued to crash the glass against Linfield, grabbing another six rebounds on the defensive end. She swiped four steals against the Wildcats to help Chapman jump out to a big lead. The Panthers limited Linfield to just 15 first-half points on 11 percent shooting.

After two opening weekend wins, the Panthers don't return to action until Nov. 23 for their home-opener against Elmhurst.
