Women's golf finishes strong at SCIAC #2

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's golf team took fifth place at SCIAC #2, led by a top-10 finish from senior Emily Lewis. The Panthers were one of three teams to shoot a 307 on day two of the tournament to move up one spot in the team standings.

All eight teams improved from day one to day two and the Panthers shaved off 13 strokes from their team score after shooting a 320 (+32) to open the tournament. Chapman ended up just one stroke back of Cal Lutheran with a two-day card of 627 (+51).

Lewis was in fifth after the first day after going three-over par in the opening round with a 75. She was one stroke better on the second day to finish the tournament five-over par with a 149 in sixth place. Sophomore Lauren Settle took three strokes off her card from one round to the next, ending the two-day tournament 11-over par with a 155 in 14th.

Freshman Kristen Lee finished in 23rd and was 16-over par with a 160. She had the second-biggest improvement from day one to day two, taking six strokes off for a five-over 77. Senior Marisa Bhanubandh was 19-over par in 31st with a three-stroke improvement between rounds. Junior Haylie Bantle showed the most improvement between rounds, taking nine strokes off for a nine-over 81 in her final round.

The Panthers head to the SCIAC Championships in two weeks and sit in fifth place in the team standings but are just fie strokes behind Cal Lutheran for a spot in the top half of the conference.
