PASADENA, Calif. – Two players are in the top-10 and the Chapman University women's golf team is in third after the first round of the SCIAC Championships. Senior Emily Lewis paced the Panthers with freshman Kristen Lee not far behind.

Lewis finished her first round in a tie for fourth with a five-over par 77. After a tough first hole, Lewis quickly recovered and strung together three consecutive birdies and the next three holes. She birdied again on the 17th hole to make a move into the top-5.

As a team, the Panthers shot a 319 (+31) and are tied with Pomona-Pitzer for third place on the team leaderboard. The Panthers stand seven strokes ahead of Whittier and 14 strokes over Cal Lutheran. The Regals led Chapman in the season standings for fourth place entering the day but the Panthers jumped the Regals by nine strokes after the opening day performance.

Lee was just one stroke back of Lewis in a tie for seventh. She went up and down for par on 12 of the 18 holes and birded the fourth hole to finish six over. Sophomore Lauren Settle finished her opening round with an 80 (+8) and is the third Panther to site in the top-15 on the leaderboard.
