Lewis narrowly misses cut at NCAA Championships

HOUSTON – A historic run in to the NCAA Division III Championships came to an end as senior Emily Lewis narrowly missed the cut. Lewis was the first female golfer and second-ever Chapman golfer to participate in the championship event.

Lewis joined the Panthers for their inaugural season as a sophomore transfer and has led the program to a quick ascension. With Lewis leading the way, the Panthers took second at the SCIAC Championships in 2018 and ended in fourth in 2019. She has established the record book and set the bar for future golfers.

The senior from Los Alamitos, Calif., had a strong start to the championship with back-to-back rounds of six-over par. She started on the back nine for the second day in a row for her third round and began the day with three consecutive pars. After that, she hit a few tough holes to finish the back nine 10-over par. She regrouped for a solid front nine, finishing those nine holes just four strokes over par.

She finished the day with an 86 (+14) and a three-day score of 242 (+26), narrowly missing the cut into tomorrow's final round.

Lewis' career ends with her trailblazing run into the NCAA Championships and becoming the first-ever Chapman golfer to earn All-Region honors.
