Pomona-Pitzer comeback spoils women's lacrosse home opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Colleges women's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the game and held host Chapman University scoreless over the final 18:48 to come-from-behind for a 10-9 at Wilson Field on Wednesday night. The Sagehens' rally spoiled the Panthers' home debut, handing Chapman (1-1 overall, 1-1 SCIAC) its first loss of the season.

Pomona-Pitzer (3-0 overall, 3-0 SCIAC) didn't even take its first lead of the game until the winning goal was scored with 4:35 remaining in the second half. The Sagehens trailed 8-4 after a goal by Chapman junior M Brooke Martini with 23:12 left in the game. It was Martini's second goal of the game and fourth straight goal by the Panthers after snapping a 4-4 tie late in the first half.

However, over the final 20:49 in the contest, Pomona-Pitzer out-scored Chapman 6-1 with the Panthers' lone goal coming from freshman M Becka Wachtel at 18:48. Wachtel finished with a team-high three points (two goals, one assist).

Chapman sophomore GK Tara Sonnemaker suffered the loss despite making six saves in goal.

Aubrey Douglass led all scorers with four goals on five shots for Pomona-Pitzer.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday as they host Occidental College at Wilson Field at 7 p.m., looking for their first home victory of the season.
