Women's lacrosse falls at home to Occidental

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team dropped its second home game in a row, falling to visiting Occidental College 15-4 at Wilson Field on Saturday night. The Tigers led from start to finish, building a 10-1 halftime lead and cruising to their first win of the season.

Occidental (1-3 overall, 1-3 SCIAC) scored in bunches on Friday night, finding the back of the net four times in the first nine minutes to take a 4-0 lead. Chapman (1-2 overall, 1-2 SCIAC) answered with a goal by sophomore M Tessa Oliaro with 19:21 remaining in the first half, but that was all the Panthers would get in the period. The Tigers scored the next 10 goals (six in the first half, four in the second) to build a 14-1 advantage.

Chapman scored three of the final four goals, including free position shot by junior M Brooke Martini, who also led the Panthers with four shots and three draw controls.

Occidental out-shot the Panthers 26-16 in the game. Tigers' Sierra Slack led all players with five goals, while teammate Beebe Sanders scored three goals and added three assists. Oxy GK Adrienne Ruth made 10 saves for her first win of the year.

Chapman will play its next two SCIAC games on the road to close out the first half of the conference schedule at Claremont and Redlands. The Panthers' next home game will be March. 16 against Plymouth State (N.H.) at 11:30 a.m.
