Women’s lacrosse shuts down NEC for 13-3 win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team shut out visiting New England College in the second half to hold on to a 13-3 win. The Panthers (5-1) scooped up 35 ground balls while senior Tara Sonnemaker made eight saves to limit the Pilgrims' opportunities.

Sonnemaker did not allow a free position goal, saving all four as part of her eight saves. Sophomore Danielle Zahn led the attack with three goals and an assist while senior Kelsey Mackin tallied two goals and three assists.

After trading the first two goals of the match, Chapman embarked on a 4-0 run to take a commanding lead that it would not relinquish. NEC's Tara Bainbridge scored twice in less than a minute to make it 5-3 but Zahn, Mackin and senior Tessa Oliaro scored the next three goals for the Panthers to make it 8-3 at halftime.

Sonnemaker did not allow a goal over the final 42 minutes of the match, following Bainbridge's pair of goals. The Panthers forced 16 second-half turnovers and notched five goals to cruise to the victory.

Chapman won its second-straight match and remained undefeated at home this season. The Panthers are back at home on Wednesday to take on Illinois Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
