Women’s lacrosse falls to CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team dropped to 0-2 after a 16-3 loss to SCIAC-favorite Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The game began as a defensive battle, as Chapman prevented CMS from taking any shots for nearly the first five minutes of play. The Athenas eventually scored the game's first three goals before Alexandra Callaway put Chapman on the board to pull the Panthers within two before the half.

The second half was a different story, however, as the Athenas went on a 9-0 run to open up a 12-1 lead. Panther's sophomore Danni Malinski scored her first goal of the season to stop the run. The Athenas then scored three straight, before Leah Donnelly added her team-high fifth goal of the season.

Allie Hill and Sally Abel led the way for CMS with four goals each. Alex Futterman added three more.

Chapman travels to Occidental as they look to claim their first win of the season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The next Panthers home game is Saturday, February 29 against Redlands. The game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
