Final 13 minutes are the difference in Panthers' comeback win

ORANGE, Calif. – Down 1-0 with 13 minutes left in regulation, the Chapman University women's soccer team tied and then won the game with a pair of goals 10 minutes apart, defeating visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College 2-1 at Wilson Field on a wet Wednesday evening.

Junior MF Karina Cisneros scored the game-winner with 2:01 remaining in regulation to give the Panthers back-to-back home wins for the first time this season. The winning goal was set up by a cross from the right corner by freshman MF Emma Castleton which was deflected by Claremont GK Hannah Dunham. Cisneros jumped on the loose ball in the goalie box and scored her third goal of the season.

Just 10 minutes earlier, Chapman (5-5-1) knotted the score at 1-1 on a goal by junior F Aimee Evans – her team-leading sixth of the year. Evans, who had just checked back into the game less than a minute before, provided a big lift for the Panthers with her shot from the right side, just out of Dunham's reach and finding the lower-left corner of the goal in the 78th minute.

After a sluggish start due to cold, damp weather conditions, Claremont (4-4-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute on a goal by junior MF Lauren Phillips, her first of the season. The teams combined for just seven shots in a scoreless first half.

After taking just two of those shots in the first 45 minutes the Panthers tallied eight attempts in the second, including six shots on goal. Dunham made four saves for the Athenas but her record fell to 4-4-1.

The Panthers will hit the road for five of their final seven matches, including three this weekend in Illinois.
