Panthers fall to Regals for third straight loss

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team lost a tough battle on Wednesday, falling 2-1 to the Cal Lutheran Regals at Wilson Field. The match was the Panthers second loss of the season at home, but third loss in a row after falling to SCIAC rivals Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer.

Cal Lutheran (6-4-2 overall, 4-2-1 SCIAC) got on the board early with the first half's only goal in the 28th minute of play. Freshman F Sarah Wardle scored on a loose ball rebound to give Cal Lutheran a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first goal of Wardle's college career.

The Regals extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore F Nicole Campbell netted the insurance goal at the 78th minute giving the Regals some breathing room.

Refusing to be shutout, Chapman sophomore F Kourtney Kingsmore scored her second goal of the season to tighten the score to 2-1 with 16 minutes left to play. However, Kingsmore's goal would be the only Panther goal of the night.

The Panther offense fell short taking only seven shots on goal, while the Regals took 11 overall. Sophomore GK Kristin Kleinow had five saves and allowed just two goals on the night for the Panthers.

Looking to break a three-game losing streak, the fifth-place Panthers (6-6 overall, 2-5 SCIAC) will host the third-place Redlands Bulldogs (4-2, 6-3) Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wilson Field.
