Panthers cap off Saturday night with a 9-0 victory

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team earned a 9-0 victory over Bethesda University on Saturday night on Wilson Field. The Panthers took a commanding 6-0 lead after opening the half, registering 13 shots to Bethesda's two shots within the frame.

Junior Hayley Thorfinnson got the Panthers out to an early lead with a goal at the 14:28 mark on an assist from senior Celina Solomon. Senior Molly Simpson then assisted to junior Kourtney Kingsmore a little over a minute later to put Chapman up 2-0. Sophomore Taryn Tanaka struck the back of the net at the 25:10 mark first her career goal to put Chapman up 3-0.

The Panthers wrapped up the half with three more season firsts with goals by sophomore Sara Wagner, freshman Lindsay Erl and senior Jamie Rosenberg to put Chapman in the comfortable 6-0 lead. Freshman Emily Holbrook assisted on Erl and Wagners goals.

In the second half, sophomore Lara Jacobson put the Panthers on top 7-0 with an unassisted break away down the left side of the field. Holbrook scored her first goal of the season four minutes later followed by Kingsmore who scored the final goal for the Panthers in the 9-0 win.

Chapman will hit the road for a four-game road swing next week beginning with Whitworth on Friday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.
