ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's tennis team will send eight Panthers to the 114th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament April 24-27, to compete in a singles and a doubles tournament featuring some of the West Region's top Division III players.

Junior Justin Thompson (11-10), who is ranked 19th in the region, received the Panthers' highest seeding as the No. 12 seed and earned a first-round bye in the men's singles tournament which begins on Friday. Freshman Charlie Werman (15-6) will face off against UC Santa Cruz's Garrett Deguchi while Panther sophomore Brett Buford will meet fellow SCIAC foe Johnathan Kim of Pomona-Pitzer in the first round.

The men will also send two teams to compete in the doubles tournament, as Buford will team with senior Troy Akin, and Werman will pair with freshman Sam Mitteldorf. Mitteldorf/Werman (7-11) will open against Jesse Knight and Ian Slater of Cal Lutheran, while Akin/Buford (11-10) will meet Rushikesh Joshi and Morgan Lebby of Caltech.

The women will have one team in doubles and three Panthers in the singles tournament including sophomore Andrea Hammer (10-11) who is ranked No. 11 in the region and will receive a first-round bye after earning the No. 7 seed.

Senior Kelley Klebenow (12-3) and junior Sophia Duong (18-3), will each look to continue their five-match win streaks as Klebenow takes on Denise Poltayski of Willamette (OR), and Duong faces Crystal Lim of Claremont Mudd-Scripps after their first-round byes.

Duong and Klebenow (13-2) will also compete as a doubles team and play Arthi Padmanabhan and Mae Coyiuto in the second round of the tournament, after receiving a bye in the first.

The tournament will serve as a final tuneup for the men and women before competing in the SCIAC championships May 2-3.
