Women's tennis falls to No. 25 Brandeis in season debut

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team dropped its season opener to visiting Brandeis University (Mass.) 7-2 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon in a battle between two nationally-ranked teams. The No. 25-ranked Judges earned their first win of the year while handing the No. 31-ranked Panthers their first loss.

Chapman's lone win in singles came behind another strong effort from senior Sophia Duong, picking up where she left off last year when she won 20 matches overall. Duong made short work of Brandeis's Emily Eska in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to improve to 3-1 this season (2-1 in tournament play).

The Panthers also received a win in doubles play, thanks to Duong and sophomore partner Madeline Saunders on the No. 3 court. The duo defeated Charlotte Aaron and Sarita Biswas 8-6 for their first win of the season.

Chapman will return to the court on March 1 to host another nationally-ranked program, No. 22 Mary Washington (Va.) at the Chapman Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
