Tennis teams sweep Salisbury at home

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's tennis team swept Salisbury University (Md.) in a dual match at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. On the men's side, the Panthers earned their second consecutive win in a row defeating Salisbury 7-2 while the No. 31-ranked women earned their second win of the season 6-3.

Women: Chapman 6, Salisbury 3

The women's team won five of the singles matches after dropping two points through doubles play. Seniors Rachel Fox (court 2) and Sophia Duong (court 3) earned straight set victories to help the Panthers to victory. Sophomore Madeline Saunders (court 4) also earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory to improve her record to 3-1 from the four spot this season.    

In doubles play, junior Andrea Hammer and Fox got the 8-6 win in the No. 1 spot, while Duong and Saunders fell 8-5 on court 2 and freshman Lauren Ross and junior Mady Strahl fell 8-6 on court 3.

Men: Chapman 7, Salisbury 2

The Panthers took five singles matches in straight sets, with senior Justin Thompson defeating Daniel Albers 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot and junior Brett Buford defeating Demetri Vrahnos 6-2, 6-4 from the No. 3 spot.

Chapman lost two of the three doubles matches, with sophomore Charlie Werman and Buford recording the only team win of the day 8-6 from the No. 2 spot.  

The men's team (4-3 overall) will host Vassar (N.Y.) on Monday, March 16 at 1 p.m. at the Chapman tennis courts looking for their third consecutive win at home. The women's team (2-4 overall) will host Trinity (Conn.) on Tuesday, March 17 with the first match set to begin at 10 a.m.
