ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team won for the fourth time in its past six matches, defeating visiting Kalamazoo College (Mich.) 8-1 at the Chapman Tennis Courts on Monday. The Panthers swept doubles and then won on five of the six singles courts to earn their most decisive win of the year.

The duo won for the fifth time this season, improving to 5-6 overall. The red-hot tandem of senior Sophia Duong and sophomore Madeline Saunders also won on court two with an 8-3 victory. The win was their fifth in a row and gave them a 9-2 record in dual match play this year.

Fox, Hammer and Saunders each won in straight sets on singles courts two, three and four, respectively. Saunders became the first Panther to 10 wins this season with a 6-1, 6-1 win as the fourth seed to run her overall record to 10-3 (8-2 dual).

Junior Mady Strahl went to a third-set tiebreak and won 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 to earn her first singles victory of the season on court five. And senior Sarah McDonald earned a straight-sets win on court six.

The Panthers now turn their attention to SCIAC play, within which they will play their final seven matches beginning on the road at Caltech on Friday at 2 p.m. It will be Chapman's first match away from home this season (11 straight home matches).
