Hammer, Saunders compete in Ojai Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – Senior Andrea Hammer and junior Madeline Saunders represented the Chapman University women's tennis team at the 116th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament this weekend. Hammer advanced to round 16 of singles play in the tournament for the second year in a row before being eliminated.

Hammer was granted a bye in the first round of the tournament. She then went on to defeat Emily Werman from Cal Lutheran University 7-5, 6-2 on Thursday. The senior fell in round 16 of the tournament to Nada L Marjanoivc, the No. 4 seed, 6-1, 6-2 on Friday.

Saunders also received a bye in the first round of singles play in the tournament, but fell to Arianna M. Chen from Pomona-Pitzer 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday. Saunders is now 6-9 on the season.

In doubles action, the duo was ousted in the first round on Thursday after falling to Grand Canyon pair Lana Rinaldi and Kylie Waschuck 6-4, 6-1.

Chapman (2-13 overall, 2-4 SCIAC) will travel to Cal Lutheran for its last match of the season at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
