Women's tennis falls 7-2 to UCI

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team took a couple points off of Division I opponent UC Irvine but ultimately fell 7-2. The Panthers took two double matches for an early lead but UCI swept the singles.

Juniors Madison Ross and Vasilisa Trofimova took the first win on the No. 3 doubles court, cruising to an 8-2 win. The Panthers' newcomer duo of sophomore Liza Antonova and freshman Aliya Allyn battled on court three, winning in a tiebreaker for the 2-1 lead in the match.

The Anteaters took all six singles points to take the team win but Allyn narrowly pulled off the upset after moving up to No. 3. After dropping the first set, she battled back to take the second and narrowly lost the third in a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 loss. Freshman Mary Williams also played a close match on the No. 6 court, falling 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

The Panthers are back home tomorrow for their SCIAC opener against Cal Lutheran at 2 p.m.
