Women's tennis defeats No. 34 Babson
ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team defeated nationally-ranked Babson 6-3 on Monday at the Anderson Tennis Center. The Panthers took an early advantage and finished off the victory with four singles wins.
Babson took the No. 1 doubles match but Racquel Fhima and Goldie La took an 8-2 decision in the No. 3 match. Alexis Goldin and Lucy Erickson battled to an 8-4 win at No. 2 for the 2-1 advantage.
La kept the momentum into singles, capturing a 6-1, 7-6 win in the No. 2 singles match. Babson's Olivia Soffer won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles but Erickson also took the win in her singles match with a straight set 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5.
With three matches needing a third set, Katherine Monroy overcame a first set loss to clinch the match with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6. Golin tacked on the final point in No. 3 singles with a hard-fought 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) win.
The Panthers month-long homestand tomorrow against Washington University-St. Louis at 1 p.m.
