Singles dominance not enough for No. 21 Washington (Mo.)

ORANGE, Calif — The Chapman Panthers fell to the No. 21 Washington University Bears, 5-4,  on Tuesday, Mar. 15.

The Panthers were edged out despite winning four out of the six singles matches.

Aliya Allyn was up 5-0 to start her match before winning due to a retirement. In the third through fifth singles matches, Alexis Golin, Olivia Desso, and Lucy Erickson took home victories. While Golin and Erickson won in straight sets, Desso won in dramatic fashion.

After losing her first set in a tiebreaker, 6-7, she came right back to win the second. 6-2. In the final set Desso won by only two points, 10-8.

While the Panthers were on fire in the singles matches, the doubles victories were harder to come by. All three duos of Panthers lost, but by small margins — 5-8, 6-8, 7-8.

With the loss, Chapman falls to 4-3 on the season. Washington improves to 8-1
