Ramirez sets school record in 800 meters

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Chapman University freshman Cathryne Ramirez broke the school record in the 800 meters at the 28th Annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday. Ramirez ran the race in 2:25.85, eclipsing Chapman's previous record of 2:27.05 set by Wendy Belanger at the Soka University Peace Invite three years ago.

Sophomore sprinter Lauren Deats finished in the top 25 in the 100 meters with a time of 12.71 seconds, less than a tenth of a second from her personal best and school record of 12.62 which she set at the SCIAC Championships in 2013. Sophomore Alyssa Bliss was not far behind with a time of 13.31 seconds, marking a career best and improving by .05 seconds over her previous personal record at Cal State Fullerton last month.

Leading the team in the 400 meters was freshman sprinter Sara Delucchi who also set a personal best with a time of 64.02.

Ramirez also led the Panthers in distance finishing the 1500 meters with a time of 5:02.57 seconds. Fellow freshman Jessica Selby was not far behind at 5:15.31 seconds.

The Panthers return to conference action on Saturday at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #3 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11 a.m.
