4x100 relay notches first place, CU record

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women's 4x100 meter relay team dashed to a school record and first place finish, defeating University of Redlands and Occidental College along the way at the SCIAC #3 Multi-Dual track and field meet at Claremont on Saturday. The Panthers finished fourth out of five in the overall team scoring, defeating Whittier College.

The Panthers' team of freshman twins Alyssa and Alex Bliss, sophomore Jaemi Mansfield and sophomore Lauren Deats crossed the finish line at 50.05 seconds in the 4x100 meters, breaking an 18-year old Chapman record of 50.28 set back in 1996. The Panthers edged Redlands and Oxy who came in just .24 seconds behind. Chapman's time is the third-fastest in the 4x100 in the SCIAC this season.

Deats placed second in the 100 meters with a season-best time of 12.70 – putting her ninth in the SCIAC in that event this year. Alyssa Bliss earned career bests in both the 100 and 200 meters with times of 13.21 and 26.79, respectively to lead the Panthers.

Chapman also fared well in field events with junior high jumper Charlie Truax equaling her career best with a jump of 1.57 meters in her third attempt at the mark. Truax finished second behind Redlands' Maddie Smith whose jump measured 1.71 meters. The duo achieved the top two measures in the SCIAC this season heading into the SCIAC Championships in May.

In the long jump pit, Chapman sophomore Maria Belen Meza earned a personal record with a jump of 4.90 meters to finish fourth in the field. Senior Ema Solarova also achieved a personal record in the event with a measured jump of 4.60 meters.

Chapman will travel to Whittier on May 2-3 for the SCIAC Championships.
