Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.

Geiger earns second straight AVCA All-America selection

Notching her second-straight clean sweep of postseason awards, Chapman University junior Val Geiger was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America third team in an announcement made by the AVCA on Tuesday. The honor marks Geiger’s second selection to the illustrious team and follows selections to both the All-SCIAC and AVCA All-West Region first teams.

Two Chapman University volleyball players have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-West Region team for the 2013 season. Junior MB Val Geiger (first team) and senior S Corrine Ostrovsky (honorable mention) both received the recognition for the second straight year.

Top-seed Cal Lu bounces Panthers from volleyball tourney

The top-seeded and No. 3-ranked Cal Lutheran University volleyball team was too much for visiting Chapman University, ousting the Panthers in straight sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-13) in the semifinals of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament at Gilbert Arena on Thursday night.

Geiger earns All-SCIAC honors for second time

Chapman University junior Val Geiger was named to the All-SCIAC volleyball team on Monday marking the second straight year she has received first team honors. Geiger was the only Panther named to the All-Conference team for the 2013 season.

Volleyball falls to Oxy on 'Senior Night'

The regular season came to a close on Saturday night with the Chapman University volleyball team treading in unfamiliar waters. The Panthers lost in five sets to visiting Occidental College (25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 14-25, 15-8) for their season-high third consecutive loss – their first such losing streak since 2010. Chapman also lost back-to-back home losses for the first time in over three years.

The No. 3-ranked Cal Lutheran University volleyball team nixed any thoughts of an upset on Tuesday night, disposing of host Chapman University in five sets (25-13, 17-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-5) at the Hutton Center for its 20th consecutive win this season.

Volleyball returns home to clinch SCIAC berth

The Chapman University volleyball team returned home and clinched a repeat berth in the SCIAC postseason tournament with four-set victory (25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18) over visiting University of La Verne at Hutton Center. The Chapman win on Friday night combined with a Whittier loss guarantees the Panthers cannot finish worse than fourth in the SCIAC standings (Occidental College is ineligible for qualification) with four matches remaining.

After sweating out two five-set victories against SCIAC rivals Claremont and Redlands last weekend, Chapman University volleyball coach Mary Cahill celebrated her 400th career head coaching victory with relative ease as the Panthers swept visiting Caltech 25-8, 25-13, 25-14 at the Hutton Sports Center on Friday night.

Record performance earns Geiger SCIAC Athlete of the Week again

Junior MB Val Geiger led the first-place Chapman University volleyball team in come-from-behind victories over Claremont and Redlands to earn SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season. The 2012 AVCA All-America selection tallied 62 kills, including a school record 36 kills in Saturday’s five-set win over Redlands to become the first SCIAC athlete this season to take home multiple weekly recognitions.

Geiger sets school record as volleyball wins another nail-biter

Less than 24 hours after setting a career-high with 26 kills against Claremont-M-S, junior MB Val Geiger recorded a school record 35 kills as the Chapman University women’s volleyball team came from behind to defeat the University of Redlands Bulldogs in five sets (25-15, 24-26, 22-25, 25-14, 15-13).

The Chapman University volleyball team finally got to play in front of its home crowd on Friday night and it didn’t disappoint. The Panthers handed visiting No. 20 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges its first loss of the season, rallying for a five-set victory (25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-7) in their home and SCIAC openers at Hutton Center.
