Happy to be home, volleyball downs Caltech in three

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University volleyball team made quick work of visiting Caltech on Wednesday night with a three-set sweep in their home and SCIAC openers at the Hutton Sports Center. The Panthers earned their second win of the year in just 53 minutes, defeating the Beavers 25-7, 25-8, 25-8.

Chapman (2-7 overall, 1-0 SCIAC) cruised to the win with 11 different players earning kills and the Panthers totaling 18 service aces in the match – just three shy of the school record. Four of those aces came from junior OH Michele Hammer, who also led the team with six kills and added seven digs. Freshman MB Alexandria Robinson equaled Hammer's six kills on just seven swings.

Senior S Morgan Slater added 15 assists and a team-high eight digs to pace Chapman's passing game. Junior OH Taylor McCreery led the team with five service aces.

The win snapped the Panthers' three-match losing skid and opened the conference season on a high note. Chapman will take a break from the SCIAC schedule on Friday when it faces Division III's No. 6-ranked Colorado College on a neutral court at Whittier College at 3 p.m. The Panthers won't return home again until Sept. 27 when they host Whittier.
