Panthers snap home losing streak with sweep of Redlands

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University volleyball team snapped a three-match home losing streak and began the second half of the SCIAC schedule on the right track, defeating visiting University of Redlands in straight sets 25-12, 25-17, 25-20 at the Hutton Center on Tuesday night.

Senior MB Val Geiger led all players with 13 kills and added five blocks (two solo, three assisted) as the Panthers won for just the second time in five matches on their home floor. Chapman (5-13 overall, 4-5 SCIAC) earned a much-needed win to keep pace in the conference standings, pulling into a tie with Whittier College for fifth place. The Panthers have won two of their last three overall.

Senior libero Andi Frisina earned a match-high 20 digs and freshman S Jade Santos added 30 assists in the sweep for the Panthers.

Chapman jumped out to leads in each of the first two sets, paced by Geiger and junior OH Michele Hammer. Hammer led the Panthers in the second with five of her 10 kills. Hammer has now reached double figures in kills in 12 of Chapman's 18 matches.

The Panthers will be back at Hutton Center on Friday to host UC Santa Cruz at 7:30 p.m. in a non-conference match. Chapman will then travel to Pasadena to take on Caltech on Saturday at 6 p.m.
