Young Panther Squad Ready For 2015 Season

Young Panther Squad Ready For 2015 Season

A young Chapman women's volleyball team will take the court for the first time on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Antelope Valley in the Hutton Center. The Panthers 2015 squad features 10 new players, including eight freshmen.

The Panthers have their sights set on returning to the SCIAC Tournament, which avoided them for the first time in three years in 2014. Senior Michele Hammer is back to lead the team into the new season. She averaged 3.16 kills and 3.40 digs per set last year. With 611 career digs and 632 career, the senior could reach 900 in both categories before the year is out.

With 10 new faces joining the team in 2015, freshmen and transfers will immediately jump into the rotation. A freshman will handle the setting duties but which one remains to be determined over the first few weeks of the season.

The Panthers open up with two home matches this week on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. before hitting the road for Colorado. The first serve in the SCIAC season is Sep. 18 when the Panthers host Pomona-Pitzer.
