Panthers hit four-game winning streak in sweep over Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Kylie Cooke helped the Chapman University volleyball team extend its three-game winning streak to four posting a double-double in a sweep against Caltech on Friday night. The Panthers (7-3 overall, 4-0 SCIAC) defeated the Beavers in three sets 25-12, 25-11 and 25-10.

Cooke continued to have the hot hand this week tallying a team-high of 10 kills on 12 attacks for a hitting percentage of .833. Leading the passing game once again was freshman S Kaitlyn Raymundo with 13 assists.

The Panthers took an early 5-1 lead in the first set, but the Beavers stayed alive going on a 5-3 run to tighten the score 9-6. Chapman broke open the lead with 14 points to win set one 25-12. Junior Michele Hammer earned all seven points in match one while hitting .600 and tallying four aces.

In set two, the Panthers and Beavers battled early with Chapman taking a 9-6 lead. Chapman then broke away going on a 7-1 run to take the lead 15-7. The Panthers finished the match 25-11 with Cooke recording four back-to-back kills.

Chapman defeated the Beavers 25-10 in set three with freshman Lauren Friend recording four kills and two blocks at the net for the Panthers.

The Panthers will travel to La Verne Saturday for a match set at 6 p.m. Chapman will then return home on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. for a match against Cal Lutheran.
