Seniors exit on high note with sweep

ORANGE, Calif. - Senior captain Michele Hammer led the Chapman University women's volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-13 sweep over Occidental College on Saturday night at the Hutton Sports Center.

Chapman took an early 8-2 lead in the first set but Occidental rallied back to take the lead 10-8 scoring eight unanswered points. The Panthers and Tigers then traded leads twice before Chapman ran away with the first set 25-21.

In set two, the Panthers took another early 9-6 lead then capitalized on their high energy offense going on an 8-3 run against the Tigers to take a 17-9 lead. The Panthers took set two 25-18.

Chapman then swept the match in set three taking their final lead 10-4, capitalizing on a 11-6 run to earn a 25-13 vicotry in the final set. Chapman outhit Occidental .316 to -.27 in the final set.

Hammer ended her career on high note, recording her eleventh double-double of the season with 15 kills and 24 digs. Sophomore Kylie Cooke hit an impressive .667 on the night with 11 kills on 15 attacks.

Freshman S Jessica Blum led the team with 19 assists on the night, alongside freshman S Kaitlyn Raymundo who tallied an additional 16 assists in the three set match. Junior Jade Santos led the passing game with 14 digs on the night.

The Panthers finish their season 10-14 overall and 7-9 in SCIAC, drawing a tie with fifth place Pomona-Pitzer.
