Cooke, Isabel named SCIAC Athletes of the week

ORANGE, Calif. – Two more Chapman athletes were named SCIAC Athlete of the Week in their respective sports this week. Senior Kylie Cooke earned the nod after she helped the women's volleyball team defeat No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, while fellow senior Jacob Isabel had a strong showing against Trinity, earning him the award.

Cooke performed well all week, tallying eight kills against Redlands and nine against Caltech, but hit her stride in the Panthers' third game of the week against CMS. The La Habra Heights native recorded 18 kills against the Athenas, increasing her hitting percentage to .360 and kill count to 35 on the week. She was also a force on defense for Chapman, tallying six digs and five block assists. Cooke ranks fourth in the SCIAC in kills per set and hitting percentage.

The Panthers beat the nationally ranked Athenas in five thrilling sets, 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. This was Chapman's first win against CMS since the 2013 season.

Despite the heartbreaking overtime loss to Trinity, Isabel played one of the best games of his career. The Pleasanton native tallied 266 all-purpose yards against the Tigers, 153 of those coming from just two plays. Those two plays included a 57-yard reception and a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The senior ranks ninth in the country in all-purpose yards, averaging 203 all-purpose yards per game. He is only the second player in Chapman history to return both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in his career.
