AVCA honors Srivastava as DIII National Player of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Another year and another school first for sophomore Sophie Srivastava. The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) selected the Panthers' setter/right side hitter as the Division III Player of the Week, making her the first recipient of the award in Chapman history.

Srivastava led the Panthers to a dominant 4-0 week at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational. Chapman swept three of the four matches and improved to 6-2 on the young season.

She filled the stat sheet all weekend long and recorded her first two triple-doubles of the season in wins over UC Santa Cruz and Texas Lutheran. As a freshman, Srivastava became the first Panther to record a triple-double with double digit kills, assists and digs. She went on to have 10 triple-doubles and ranked second in the nation. She is one of just eight Division III players this season with multiple triple-doubles.

For the week, the sophomore from Belmont, Calif., had a fantastic week at the net, hitting .412 with 3.5 kills per set and 0.69 blocks per set. While in the back row, she accumulated 3.54 digs per set, 7.69 assists per set and served up six aces.

The Panthers are back on the floor on Saturday to take on Pacific Lutheran at Pomona-Pitzer and open up conference play with their first home match of the season on Sep. 21 against Caltech at 2 p.m.
