Women's volleyball drops home opener

ORANGE, Calif — Women's volleyball faced a tough test in the home opener against Vanguard falling 3-1.

The Panthers dropped the first set 25-18, but showed promise winning the second set 25-22. Olivia Sampson led the way in the second set recording three kills. Two Panthers also recorded aces, Angela Atis and Cat Helgeson. Leighton Gagnon and Julin Kenison added two kills apiece in the second set.

Chapman held tight in the third set as well, at one point trailing 7-1, the Panthers were able to work it back to a 19-18 lead. That would end there, however, as Vanguard would win the next seven points en route to the decisive third set victory.

Gagnon led the way for the Panthers with seven kills, hitting .267. Kenison and Sampson recorded seven kills as well, on a few more attempts.

Chapman returns to the court on Sunday, Sept. 18 to take on Colorado College at home.
