Spicer earns Capital One Academic All-District honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University senior Kirsten Spicer has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District VIII Women's At-Large team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The water polo goalie and swimmer earned the award for the second time in her career thanks to an outstanding season on the field and in the classroom.

A four-year, two-sport athlete for Chapman, Spicer has earned a cumulative 3.95 grade-point average while double majoring in integrated educational studies and history. The three-time ACWPC All-Academic Team honoree was also named to the SCIAC All-Conference Water Polo Sportsmanship team as a senior and just last week earned Chapman's Jack Duddy Female Leadership Award.

She joins Christina Lyon '03 (2002-03) as the only two women in Chapman aquatics history to earn multiple Academic All-District honors.

The captain graduates as the Panthers' career leader in goalie blocks with 590 and owns the school record in the 50-yard freestyle swim and was a part of four school-record relay teams. Spicer helped the Panthers' water polo team to an overall record of 14-15 season as well as a third-place finish in the SCIAC Championships and fourth-place finish in the conference standings, both program bests.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes all Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.
