Quincy's six goals lead Chapman into SCIAC semis

REDLANDS, Calif. – Senior Alison Quincy went off to lead the fifth-seeded Chapman University women's water polo team to a 10-8 win over fourth-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday. The Panthers pulled out the big win in a back and forth affair to cap off day one of the tournament.

Quincy spearheaded the offensive charge with six goals, including a hat trick in the third quarter. Junior Emily Fong dished out seven assists to contribute to the win.

Quincy scored her first pair of goals in the first along with a goal from Grace Schade and Kate Staskus to lead Chapman to a 4-3 lead. CMS shutout the Panthers in the second to take a 5-4 lead at the half.

Momentum turned completely around in the third as Quincy scored a hat trick while Alyssa Welfringer held CMS scoreless to regain a 7-5 lead for the Panthers. Schade scored another goal in the fourth along with Kate Avery and Quincy's sixth goal to make it a 10-6 lead with 1:05 to go.

CMS scored twice in the final minute but couldn't complete the comeback as Chapman came away with the win.

Next up, Chapman will take on Whittier in the SCIAC Tournament semifinals tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
