Seniors all score on Senior Night

ORNAGE, Calif. – The seniors provided all the scoring on Senior Night but the Chapman University women's water polo team fell 13-6 to top-ranked Whittier. Senior Emily Fong had a big night with two goals and three assists.

After falling behind 2-0 early on, Fong found fellow senior Lindsey Campbell for a quick goal. After drawing an exclusion, the Panthers evened the score at 2-2, when Fong found senior Grace Schade for the qualizer.

Whittier jumped up in front with a goal from Jenel Rivera with just over a minute left in the first. The goal sparked a 6-0 run that ran nearly the entire second quarter. Whittier added in five more goals before senior Emiko Mizusawa found the back of the net for the first of her two goals on the night.

Mizusawa scored at the end of the third quarter, just beating the buzzer. She scooped up a rebound with time winding down and quickly pushed into the net for the buzzer beating goal. However, the Poets had another big quarter with four goals in the third. Fong scored her first goal earlier in the quarter to capitalize on a 6-on-5 opportunity.

Down 12-5 entering the fourth quarter, Fong scored once more to cap the Panther scoring.

Chapman concludes the regular season at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday before heading to the SCIAC Championships.
