Women's water polo falls in home-opener

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 9-7 to the University of Toronto in its home-opener on Wednesday. Sophomore Audrey Hattori scored a pair of goals in the loss.

The Panthers went up 3-2 after the first quarter with goals from Hattori, freshman Mia Chanove and sophomore Lauren Dvonch. Toronto reversed the first quarter with a 3-2 advantage in the second to tie the match at 5-5 at halftime. Hattori's second goal came with just 16 seconds left to tie up the match.

Chapman was unable to find the back of the net in the third while Toronto did so twice for a 7-5 advantage. With a quick goal in the fourth, Toronto was up 8-5. Junior Argelia Diaz scored to end the Panthers second half drought, followed by sophomore Kylie Beloian to make it 8-7.

However, the Panthers couldn't find the equalizer and Toronto added a late goal for the final difference of 9-7.

The Panthers aren't back in action until the end of the month with a trip to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Feb. 27. They return home on Mar. 3 for an 11 a.m. matchup with McKendree.
