Women’s water polo falls to Brown

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman women's water polo team fell 8-3 to the visiting Brown Bears earlier this afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Welfringer tallied 10 saves in the effort.

A slow first half only saw three goals as the Bears took a 2-1 lead heading into the second half of play.

The Bears came out strong in the third, scoring four consecutive goals in the third quarter to take a 6-1 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Sophomore Emily Whitney was the first to strike in the fourth quarter, scoring with 3:06 on the clock to cut the deficit to four goals. Junior Argelia Diaz followed suit, finding the back of the net less than a minute later to make the score 6-3 with 2:17 left to play.

Brown answered less than 10 seconds later as freshman Katie Klein ripped one past Welfringer. The rookie scored again just 38 seconds later to seal the 8-3 victory for the Bears.

Sophomore Lauren Dvonch tallied a team-high four earned ejections to go along with her one assist and one steal. Whitney and freshmen Mia Chanove and Lauren Jufiar each tallied two steals against the Bears. Chanove also earned one ejection and dished out an assist.

The Panthers return to the pool tonight as the travel to Caltech at 7 p.m. They play their next home game on Saturday, March 30 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11 a.m.
